Shutter Island is a psychological thriller released in 2010 and directed by Martin Scorsese. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo as a pair of U.S. Marshals ho go to a secluded island to search for an escaped mental patient whilst uncovering a web of deception at the same time. Shutter Island was critically acclaimed for it's brilliantly developed characters and unpredictable storyline that shocked audiences. This is something I would personally like to strive for and take inspiration from Shutter Island for our own film to have a storyline that isn't predictable and hopefully surprises audiences, and to also incorporate small clues and a sense of ambiguity that intrigues audiences of psychological thrillers. Throughout the film Leonardo DiCaprio's character is psychologically tormented by the memory of deceased wife, this brings a very unique internal problem in which he has to combat and overcome. Paramount Pictures produced and distribution the film and it also had a budget of $80 million and had a total US gross of $128 million. This shows that psychological thrillers are popular amongst a mass audience and there definitely is an audience for more.

Fight Club is a psychological thriller released in 1999 and directed by David Fincher. The film stars Brad Pitt, Edward Norton and Helena Bonham Carter. The story revolves an unnamed protagonist (Edward Norton) who is very discontent with his mundane, white-collar job and seeks thrills in his life. He eventually meets Tyler Durden (Brad Pitt), a soap maker who he forms a fight club with in which men can fight recreationally and throughout there story the two characters are caught up with the mysterious Marla Singer (Helena Bonham Carter). Over the course of the film there is a prevalent battle within Norton's character's mind as he has to figure out internal problems and torment.  The film failed to meet the studio's expectations at the box office and actually received polarizing reactions from critics at first, causing it to be one of the most controversial films of the year. Critics initially praised the film for it's acting, directing and themes but criticised it for its 'excessive violence' and moral ambiguity. However over time the film has become a cult classic praised by many, with the factors that the film was first panned for making the film so loved and unique. The moral ambiguity is part of the film I would personally want to take a lot of inspiration from as it makes audiences want to watch the film multiple times. Fight Club was produced by Regency Enterprises and has a budget of $63 million and grossed $11 million in its opening weekend.
